On what date can the $50 court cost first be assessed?
January 1, 2016. The cost can be assessed on any adjudication of truant conduct that occurs on or after January 1st. The fact that some (or all) of the ten absences occurred before January 1st does not matter.
If a student is adjudicated as having engaged in truant conduct prior to January 1, 2016, the $50 court cost may not be charged. The $50 fee may not be assessed once January 1 comes around on cases that were adjudicated earlier.
