The Level I Study Guide provides an introduction to municipal court procedures and processes.

Level I: Steps to Obtain Official Status of Certified Court Clerk I (CCCI)
Certification applications must be filed with TMCEC within 3 years of the passing test date.
Step 1:
Study and register for the exam. The Level I exam is taken in 3 parts. Participants must score 69% or above on each part to receive a passing grade. All parts of the Level I exam must be taken and passed at the same time (Note: Beginning with exams taken on or after January 1, 2025, the Level I exam may be taken in parts). Passing the exam is only the first step in achieving Level I. Subjects on each part of the Level I exam are listed below (found in the Level I Study Guide).
For Exams Taken through December 31, 2024:

Step 2:
Participants must provide proof of 40 hours of approved education as a part of the application process. This means 40 hours of TMCEC, TCCA, or other approved alternative education (must include the 32-hour TMCEC New Clerks Seminar unless attended more than three years before application date).
For all levels of certification, eight (8) of the total hours may be earned by attending TMCEC webinars. The remaining hours must be live and in-person. Please note that attendance at TMCEC’s Virtual Regional Clerks (or Judges) Seminar or Virtual Clinics counts as a live, in-person event.
Please note that credit hours expire after three years. Education hours MAY BE REUSED when applying for Level II certification if the hours have not expired.
Step 3:
Once your application has been approved, your status will be updated on your TMCEC personal profile with the date it was approved and effective. Upon achievement of certification at Level I, participants will receive a paper certificate from TCCA. You may begin using the the post nominal initials of CCCI behind your signature on your TMCEC effective date.
Level II: Steps to Obtain Official Status of Certified Court Clerk II (CCCII)
Certification applications must be filed with TMCEC within 3 years of the passing test date.
