Level I

Participants in the program must pass a certification exam to gain Level I certification. The tests will be offered several times a year, click here for the 2008-2009 test registration form and test dates. For TCCA or TMCA members, the Level I exam is $50. For non-members, the cost is $90. An individual may retake an exam until a passing grade is obtained.

Exam questions for Level I are taken from Level I Study Guide. The exam has multiple-choice and true-false questions. The following topics are emphasized in the Level I Study Guide:

• Authority and Duties
• Ethics
• Procedures before Trial
• Trial Processes
• Post-Trial Processes
• State and City Reports
• Traffic Law
• Juveniles and Minors
• Communications and Stress Management

An individual may retake an exam until a passing grade is obtained.

The Certified Municipal Court Clerk exam questions are taken from 16 books. You may obtain these books on your own, or request a loaner set from TMCEC.  The exam questions are multiple choice and true-false. A list of level three study questions are available.  The following topics are emphasized:

Please note that beginning September 1, 2008, Rene Henry's Financial Management book will be replacing two of the books in the financial management category.  Level III test-takers may elect to take either version of the Level III exam between September and December 2008, but as of January 1, 2009, all Level III tests will contain questions on Rene's book.
