Education Requirements


Level I

Perfected certification applications must be filed with the TMCEC Program Coordinator within 3 years and must include the following:   

1. proof of a passing score on the Level I exam,

2. completion of 40 hours of approved continuing  education (CEU)  sponsored by TMCEC, TCCA (state or local chapter), TMCA, or an alternate provider approved by the TCCA Education Committee; or a combination thereof. Online CEUs can not exceed 8 hours therefore a minimum of 32 hours must be completed in person.  

Level I Application


Level II 

Perfected certification applications must be filed with the TMCEC Program Coordinator within 3 years and must include the following:   

1. proof of a passing score on the 3 part Level II exam;

2. proof of Level I certification in good standing;

3. completion of 40 hours of approved continuing  education units (CEU)  sponsored by TMCEC, TCCA (state or local chapter), TMCA, or an alternate provider approved by the TCCA Education Committee; or a combination thereof. Online CEUs can not exceed 8 hours therefore a minimum of 32 hours must be completed in person.  

Continuing education hours (CEUs) expire on the 3rd anniversary of the certificate date.  CEUs can be reused when applying for Level II certification if the hours have not expired.  

Level II Application


CMCC - Certified Municipal Court Clerk (Level III)

Perfected certification applications must be filed with the TMCEC Program Coordinator within 3 years and must include the following:  
  1. proof of a passing score on 3 part Level III exams based on the -  Level III books
  2. certificates of completion of 28 hours of approved CEUs; 
  3. certificate of completion of a 12-hour court administrator program (provided annually by TMCEC);
  4. proof of Level II Certification in good standing;
  5. certificate of completion of 24 hour Assessment Clinic (provided annually by TMCEC and has no expiration date); and
  6. proof of successful completion in the Level III Journal process
With the exception of the Level III Assessment Clinic which has no expiration, Continuing Education Hours expire on the 3rd anniversary of the certificate date.  CEUs can be reused when applying for Level II certification if the hours have not expired.  

Assessment Clinic: Participants must successfully complete a 24-hour assessment clinic. The assessment clinic emphasizes role-plays and simulations on work place problems, employee appraisals, conflict resolution skills, dealing with diversity, preparing a cost benefit analysis, developing a change project for your court, and working in teams.
